22 carat gold is 22 parts gold out of 24, or 91.6% pure, written as 916 (parts per thousand). The rest is usually copper, silver or zinc, which makes the metal harder so it can be worked into jewellery that lasts. Most gold jewellery sold in India is 22K.
Jewellery price = (22K rate per gram × net gold weight) + making charges (and wastage, where a jeweller charges it) + 3% GST on the total. Stones are priced separately.
Example with round numbers (not today’s rate): 10 g at ₹10,000 per gram is ₹1,00,000. With a 12% making charge (₹12,000) the subtotal is ₹1,12,000, and 3% GST (₹3,360) brings the bill to ₹1,15,360.
The cards at the top of this page show Bhavflow’s indicative national 22K (916) rate per gram and per 10 grams, with the time of the last update, and the table shows 1 g, 8 g (one sovereign), 10 g and 100 g. The rate excludes 3% GST and making charges.
Net gold weight × the 22K rate per gram, plus the making charge (a percentage of the gold value or a fixed amount per gram), plus any stone charges, plus 3% GST on the total. Ask for each part on the bill; the jewellery price calculator on Bhavflow does the same steps.
22 carat sone ka bhav aaj (today’s 22K gold rate) is shown at the top of this page per gram and per 10 grams, at Bhavflow’s national indicative rate excluding GST and making charges. City pages show the same national rate with local buying notes and, where available, a local association board rate.
916 is the fineness of 22 carat gold: 916 parts of gold per 1,000, or 91.6%. On a BIS hallmark it appears as 22K916, next to the BIS logo and the 6-digit HUID.
Bhavflow calculates 22K as exactly 22/24 of its 24K rate. Local associations and jewellers set their own 22K board rates, which can be slightly higher or lower, so compare like with like.
Jewellery is bought for wearing. When you sell or exchange it, you usually get the gold value minus a deduction, and the making charges and GST you paid are not returned. Coins and bars (24K) carry much lower charges.
Eight grams. In Tamil Nadu and Kerala 22K gold is often quoted per sovereign; the table above shows the 8-gram price.
