Why prices in Guwahati can differ

Bhavflow publishes one national indicative rate. A Guwahati jeweller’s board rate can be slightly higher or lower because of local association or bullion-dealer rates, transport and insurance costs, and the shop’s own margin; making charges and 3% GST come on top.

Traditional Assamese pieces are often lightweight and made with fine handwork, so making charges can be a large share of the price. Rates are quoted per 10 grams; Bihu and the wedding season are busy times.

Where to buy gold in Guwahati

Guwahati, the gateway to North-East India, has its main jewellery market in and around Fancy Bazaar and Pan Bazaar, with newer showrooms along G. S. Road. Traditional Assamese jewellery, such as the jonbiri, gamkharu and dugdugi, is sold alongside modern designs.

Fancy Bazaar and Pan Bazaar
The city’s old commercial heart, with many jewellers and wholesalers.
G. S. Road
Large showrooms of regional and national chains.

Before you buy: hallmark, HUID and making charges

  • Check the BIS hallmark on every piece: the BIS logo, the purity grade (for example 22K916 or 18K750) and a 6-digit HUID. Since 1 April 2023, registered jewellers may only sell hallmarked gold jewellery that carries a HUID (small items under 2 g and kundan, polki and jadau pieces are exempt).
  • Verify the HUID in the BIS CARE app (Verify HUID): it shows the purity, the type of article and the jeweller’s registration, which should match your bill.
  • Making charges vary widely. As general guidance, machine-made chains and plain bangles are often in the range of about 3–10% of the gold value, while handcrafted, temple, antique or filigree work commonly runs 12–25% or more; some jewellers charge a flat amount per gram instead. Ask for the charge in writing and compare shops.
  • 3% GST is charged on the jewellery bill. Ask for a GST invoice that lists net weight, purity, rate per gram, making charges, HUID and tax separately.
  • Ask about buyback and exchange terms before you buy: most jewellers pay the day’s rate for the tested purity minus a deduction.

Gold rate in Guwahati: FAQ

What should I check on traditional Assamese jewellery?

Ask for the gold purity and net gold weight separately from enamel or stones, the making charge, and whether the piece is hallmarked with a HUID; verify the HUID in the BIS CARE app.

Is the gold rate in Guwahati higher than in Kolkata?

Usually only slightly, if at all: GST is the same 3%, and differences come from transport, insurance and the shop’s margin.

Guwahati mein sone ka bhav aaj kya hai? (gold rate today in Guwahati)

Sone ka bhav aaj, today’s gold rate, is at the top of this page: Bhavflow’s national indicative rate for 22K, 24K and 18K gold per 10 grams and per gram, and chandi ka bhav aaj ka (today’s silver rate) per kg, all excluding GST and making charges. The IBJA benchmark (AM and PM) is shown next to it for comparison.

Does Bhavflow show a Guwahati-specific gold rate?

No. Bhavflow publishes one national indicative rate, calculated from international prices, and shows it on every city page. Jewellers in Guwahati may quote slightly different rates because of local association or bullion-dealer rates, transport and insurance costs and their own margins, and they add making charges and 3% GST.
