Chandi ka bhav Jaipur mein: in Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar much of the silver is sold as handmade or stone-set jewellery, so the metal rate is only one line of the bill. Ask for the net silver weight separately from the stones, the purity in writing and the making charge, and check how the shop values the piece if you return or exchange it.
Jaipur is one of India’s main centres for silver jewellery, from traditional Rajasthani and oxidised designs to pieces set with the coloured gemstones the city is known for. Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar in the walled city have many silver shops, and much of the work is made in local workshops.
Silver jewellery set with stones is priced on the silver weight plus stones and making; ask for the net silver weight separately. Oxidised and handmade pieces usually carry higher making charges than plain cast items.
The net silver weight (without stones), the purity (999 or 925), the rate used, the stone value, the making charge and 3% GST, each on its own line. That makes exchange or resale much simpler.
Net silver weight × the rate for its purity, plus the stones, plus the making charge, plus 3% GST. Ask the jeweller to list the silver weight and the stones separately on the bill.
Oxidised jewellery is silver (often 925) with a darkened finish; some fashion pieces sold as oxidised are other metals. Ask for the purity in writing, or look for a BIS silver hallmark with HUID.
